The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) recommends utilizing their racial disparities tool to better demonstrate the ways structural and institutional racism cause disproportionate detriment across our community, particularly when it comes to homelessness and housing security. However, the tool is focused on comparing the demography of the annual Point-in-Time count alongside rates of poverty, as tracked by the American Community Survey (Census Bureau). While viewing these metrics provide some initial insight, it doesn't speak to the systems at play that further complicate attempts to better advocate for underserved communities.

As a step toward emphasizing the many factors, we've also included additional context points from MIT's Living Wage Calculator and the Memphis Poverty Fact Sheet.
