What is World Homeless Day? The purpose of World Homeless Day is to increase awareness by bringing attention to the needs of individuals who are experiencing homelessness and provide opportunities for the community to get involved in responding to homelessness while taking advantage of the platform an ‘international day’ provides.

Word Homeless Day is observed annually on the 10th day of October. In some communities, it is known as World Homeless Action Day.

How did World Homeless Day Begin?

The concept of 'World Homeless Day' emerged from online discussions between people working to respond to homelessness from various parts of the world.

The Inaugural World Homeless Day was observed on the 10th of October 2010.

Since its founding, World Homeless Day has been observed on every continent except Antarctica, in several dozen countries.

Community members, organizations, and political leaders are encouraged to join forces and utilize your local networks to rally even greater support!

We encourage you to use this day to educate people about the following:

  • facts about homelessness in our city and county
  • the infrastructure that exists to help individuals who are experiencing homelessness, and
  • how our efforts to end homelessness can be improved.
